Indoor Plants for Autumn Color

October 24, 2011

The leaves are almost all gone, but most people are still celebrating Autumn as they pick out pumpkins, bake pies, and have neighborhood bonfires. In New England the fall season generally lasts through Thanksgiving; while many Alaskans would love to delay the onset of winter by another month or two, the only way to keep that cozy autumn feeling in our state is to bring it inside. One way of doing this is by gracing your home with fall-inspiring houseplants.

Here’s a list of indoor plants that will light up any corner with bright autumn colors:

•    Crotons – leaves that are vivid red, orange, yellow, and green
•    Philodendrons – several varieties that come with red, orange, or lime-toned foliage
•    Mums – a fall-blooming flower that comes in a variety of colors and shapes
•    Kalanchoes – another flowering plant that comes in warm reds, yellow, orange, and pink
•    Goldfish plants – deep green leaves with numerous tangerine-orange flowers
•    Dracaenas – several varieties with golden or lime-colored variegation
•    Lipstick plants – deep green leaves with red, pink, or golden-yellow flowers
