Here is a small list of some fun pumpkin facts.


Pumpkins belong to the Cucurbitaceae family. Along with the obvious family members like gourds and melons, they are also closely related to cucumbers and luffas. So next time you eat a pickle or scrub with a luffa keep in mind you are corresponding with the pumpkins siblings. 


The name pumpkin originates from the greek word 'pepon' which suitably enough means 'large melon'. 

So when someone's big head is in your way at the movies kindly yell at them to move their pepon!.


It was rummored back in the day that pumpkins removed freckles and helped cure snake bites. 


The Irish would make jack-o-lanterns out of, not pumpkins, but turnips.
